Digestive Health –MILK THISTLE – How Important Is Your Liver?
The Purple Flower of Health
Your liver is the chemical processor of the body. It detoxifies your blood and plays a key role in protein synthesis and metabolic function. There is currently no medical alternative to compensate for liver function. Milk Thistle is a powerful herbal antioxidant that helps fight cell-damaging free radicals, particularly those in the outer membranes of liver cells. The flavonoids in Milk Thistle help promote overall health and well-being.
Ninety-seven people with liver concerns were administered either 420 mg of silymarin from Milk Thistle or placebo daily for 4 weeks. Subsequent test results indicated a significant improvement as measured by two liver function enzymes when compared to the placebo, indicating that supplementation with Milk Thistle may promote liver health. Further, during a two year clinical trial, 170 subjects with liver concerns received either 140 mg of silymarin, the active component in Milk Thistle, or a placebo three times daily. Results indicate silymarin may support liver health, as those receiving silymarin had improved overall wellness when compared to those receiving the placebo.
