Ability, Motivation, Attitude

Ability is what you’re capable of doing.
Motivation determines what you do.
Attitude determines how well you do it.

Today is going to be a bit different. I am not going to attempt to entertain you with an anecdotal story that seems small yet explodes when viewed in a larger context. I am fired up from spending 3 days with some of the smartest people on the planet and today’s quote says it all.

Ability, Motivation, Attitude. That is all. No where are we discussing market conditions, economics, personal challenges, thread bare tires, bad day fishing, mean people or cold coffee. Ability, Motivation, Attitude.

Am I being too simple? Yes, and I don’t think that is a bad thing. Am I neglecting to address the big crashes that knock us sideways? No. We are all allowed to be overwhelmed, broken, frustrated and crazy. We are all allowed take a mental health break. Then it is back to Ability, Motivation, Attitude.

It is easy to let things “just happen” and then we can tell the public, “can you believe this is happening to me?” For perspective I ask, “Why not me?” For empowerment I say, “Watch ME happen to IT!”

Today, I encourage you to break all challenges down to Ability, Motivation, Attitude. These three things are completely within our control and nothing can effectuate more change. Find the weaknesses in these areas and we will find the answer to our challenge. I venture to say that we could have all the resources, connections and opportunity in the world. But without Ability, Motivation and Attitude we’ve got nothing. Good thing they are renewable resources.
