Coastal Georgia Greenway

A group has been in the works for some time now to create a 450 mile trail system that connects Florida to South Carolina through 6 coastal Georgia Counties. Guess what Bryan County is – that’s right! A coastal county. The other counties are Chatham, Camden, Glynn, Liberty and McIntosh. The venture includes participation from both public and private organizations.

Looking at the minutes from the June 2007 meeting, it seems as though the project is also including some interior works addressing routes to schools. If you live in a neighborhood where the kids must walk/ride to school, this is probably very important to you.

There is a joint meeting for the Chatham and Bryan County Committees being held Monday, January 28, from 1 to 3 PM at Bamboo Farms and Coastal Gardens.

You can find more information on the Coastal Georgia Greenway website.

  1. Thanks for the plug, April! We do need help in raising awareness on the Greenway in Richmond Hill. The rice dikes trail behind JF Gregory Park is part of our route if you want to know about where you can see the Greenway in action.

Our main focus now is getting improved bike and pedestrian access surrounding the elementary schools complex along Frances Meeks Way in Richmond Hill as part of a Safe Routes to School program. We welcome all interested parties to the meeting!

  2. Drew –

It’s not a problem. Thanks for coming by and providing some more information. I am very interested in learning more about the Safe Routes to School. I’ll be at the meeting.
